Twin Flames, Two Souls Journey Through Time – The Professor - Chapter 2

Daniel was going through his notes for the next day’s class when he heard a ping from his computer notifying him of an email.  He smiled at himself as he saw that it was from one Amelia Jenkins.  His mind immediately wondering to that morning in class, he had noticed her immediately sitting in the front.  She was older than the usual eighteen year old’s that normally sat in his class.  She was pleasant, paid attention to what he was saying, and followed along as he spoke.  He always liked having older students in his classes, they were there because they wanted to be, and it made teaching all that more enjoyable for him.  His smile turned wicked when he remembered just how many shades of pink her face turned when she made her barb about his being late to class.  He always liked a smart mouthed woman, and she seemed to have that quality in spades.  The very best part of the day was the look of abject horror on her face as the words left her mouth, and her hand immediately springing to her lips in shock.  It took all his strength to not immediately start laughing at the poor girl, woman, he could tell that she was already embarrassed enough.  But him being him, he had to respond in kind.  She handled it with grace, and he enjoyed watching her wish the ground would swallow her whole.  It was a fun morning, he had to admit that he still got jitters on the first day of class, never mind that he had been a professor for well over a decade, it was still hard to stand in front of a bunch of people and start talking about math, at 8:00am, every morning.  So, he very much appreciated her delightful diversion.

He clicked on the email, which was short, sweet and to the point.  “Poor girl, woman I should say, this morning’s events must have had quite the effect on her If she felt it necessary to send the email,” he said to himself.  He was about to type out a response, but for some reason he thought better of it.  It might be fun to let her squirm a little, he also enjoyed the idea of having a reason to speak to her in class the next morning.  He caught himself smiling again at the idea of making Amelia squirm.  He forced that very pleasurable idea out of his mind quickly, closed his email, and proceeded on reviewing the next day’s lesson.

“She’s a student, you know the rules, in fact you can recite them from memory.”  She was, however, not the typical student, she was older.  She looked to be in her thirties, but a student, nonetheless.  He couldn’t help but admit that she did have a rather compelling face, and her light eyes were mesmerizing.  He also enjoyed the way her breasts filled out her top, he was only human after all.  She has a pretty smile, and full lips, and that smart mouth.  Daniel began to shift uncomfortably in his chair, “enough of this foolishness,” as he went back, again, to his lesson.  He had never allowed himself to think about the girls in his class, they were young, and impressionable, and he was in a position of power.  It was quite the unfair advantage, but Ms. Amelia Jenkins was no girl, she was most definitely a woman.

As Daniel continued through with his lesson plan, his mind kept drifting back to Amelia.  Maybe he should put the poor girl, woman, out of her misery.  Why was it so important that he point out that she was a woman?  He had never felt the need to do that before with any other student.  What was so appealing about Ms. Jenkins to him?  He couldn’t put his finger on what it was exactly, but he knew that there was something different about her.  Daniel always appreciated an older woman, having been a literal child attending college, he was used to being around people older than himself.  The only child of older parents, who were also teachers, Daniel had a very different childhood from his peers.  He always excelled at school; his photographic memory made learning a breeze for him.  His high school, recognizing his intelligence, talked his parents into letting him attend the local junior college when he was just thirteen, where he thrived surrounded by people who understood him, and appreciated him for who he was.  He didn’t want to be a genius, in fact the mere mention of his IQ score caused him much embarrassment.  In college he was surrounded by people who would help him assimilate into a world that he felt uncomfortable in.  It can be quite lonely growing up as an only child, especially when your peers do not have the same mental acuity as you.  He thrived in college and found a passion for learning that he didn’t think possible.  Learning was simply information, and he could recite facts from memory, but college was different.  He was still young, but he was experiencing life earlier than any of his peers.  Maybe that was it, Amelia, because of her age and experience, felt more like a peer than a student.  Which was a very dangerous thought indeed.

As her alarm went off, Amelia already felt the dread building up in her stomach.  She checked her email again, no response from Daniel.  “Well hell, I know he read the damn thing, was it too much to hope he would put me out of my misery already?”  Apparently, it was.  As she got into the shower, she hoped the hot water would wash the embarrassment and nerves from off her skin, if only she could only open her skull and rinse her damned brain so as to wipe the memory from her mind, but no such luck.

She made it to school early, as usual, punctuality was always paramount to her.  Amelia hated being late, she felt it was rude and showed a lack of respect for the person who was kept waiting.  As she sat once again outside Daniels classroom waiting for him, her stomach was doing summersaults as she overanalyzed the events of yesterday and her email.  “He’s torturing me on purpose,” she thought.  Not that she didn’t deserve a little bit of torture, fair play and all.  As she was mentally kicking herself, he came to the door and opened it for everyone.  Amelia took her familiar seat in the front, and Daniel put his bag down on his desk.  She waited for him to put her out of her misery, and as he walked past her, he smiled, and said “Come on, did you REALLY think you needed to send that email?  I’m fine, you made me laugh, we have no issues.”  Amelia sighed with relief, and replied to him without making eye contact, “well I just wanted to be sure,” he gave her a half smile and walked out of the classroom.

As Daniel walked down the hall to get the attendance sheet from his office, he could feel himself grinning like a fool, “she looked so nervous, she couldn’t even meet my eye,” the thought was funny considering how quick witted she was the day before.  “She does turn a lovely shade of pink when she is embarrassed,” that thought traveled to a part of his body that should never, ever, come to life when thinking of a student.  He shook the thought from his mind, grabbed his attendance sheet from off his desk and walked back to the classroom.

Amelia was happy that he had put her out of her misery so quickly, and she could feel herself relax, she hadn’t realized that she was at a DEFCON 1 this whole time, she felt her shoulders relax, and she smiled to herself, finally able to let the whole ordeal go…almost, she was still her after all, and had overthinking been an Olympic event, she would win gold every four years.

As Daniel walked back into the class, his eyes darted to Amelia’s, she smiled at him, still a tinge of embarrassment on her cheeks, those damn pink cheeks of hers.  Giving her the slightest of nods in acknowledgment, she did the same.  This was only an hour class today, so he was going to show them where the computer lab was.  Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays were two hour classes, while Tuesdays and Thursdays would be lab days where students could get their homework done, and he would dutifully help them by answering any questions they might have.  “It’s probably a good thing this class is only an hour,” he thought.  He would have several meetings the rest of the day, the mere mention of which caused him to roll his eyes internally.  While he loved to teach, the endless departmental meetings, then the school wide meetings were just exhausting and such a waste of time, but those meetings would be a welcome distraction from the charming Ms. Jenkins.

As the class was ending, Amelia got up from her desk and turned and smiled sweetly at Daniel and said, “have a good day, Daniel,” “You as well, Amelia,” and she walked casually out the door, a vast difference to the speedy exit she had made just the day prior.  Amelia’s cheeks felt hot again, she was relieved, yet still her cheeks felt hot.  She liked Daniel, not like Lucy and Leah claimed of course, but she thought he was funny and sweet, and well if she had to spend eight hours a week learning Algebra, at least she knew she would enjoy herself.

Daniel went about his day in a bit of a blur.  As much as he tried though, he could not seem to get the delightful hue of pink of Ms. Jenkins cheeks from off his mind.  Well, he was going to have to find a way.  As charming as she was rules are rules, and they existed for a reason.  He knew he would never act on any attraction he may or may not feel for the estimable Ms. Jenkins.  It didn’t matter that he preferred women with a little more meat on their bones so to speak, or that her hair was the color of wheat with hints of auburn in the sun.  That her soft curls framed her face so perfectly, or that every time she smiled the smile reached her eyes, eyes the loveliest palest shade of green he had ever seen.  She laughed at his corny jokes, perhaps out of a sense of obligation more than appreciation, but her laugh was infectious.  There was something so intimate in the way she had said his name, with the slightest of pauses before doing so.  In a room full of people, it felt as though they were the only ones there.  Other students had told him goodbye, but when she said it, it seemed to have a direct path to his groin.  “Oh, for fucks sake get a grip,” he opined, clearly, he was reading more into this situation than what was truly there.  He’s nothing if not completely rational, he is a math professor after all.  Math, he liked math, it made sense to him.  Little puzzles that always have an answer, well at least until you get up into the higher echelons, it made sense.  His world made perfect sense to him, and he certainly wasn’t about to throw a monkey wrench into the situation and ruin all his hard work, not even for the estimable Ms. Jenkins.
